The Indians won, Afterward celebrated in the Clubhouse what is a step closer to a World Series title. Kluber did his usual thing and what he has done almost every start since his return from the DL on June 1. He struck out 9 batters and allowed just 3 hits and 99 pitches and get this, the average start from Kluber is 7 and 1/3 and 9 strikeouts which is amazing to think about, he pitches more than any qualified pitcher does in Major League Baseball. He won his 17th game of the season tying the most in the Major Leagues and is the AL frontrunner for the Cy Young award. And now lets talk a little bit about what happened in the game which was won behind EE’s walk the parrot 2 run homer in the 4th Inning which was not quite enough for the Indians to win but he is the first Indians player to have 36 or more home runs since 2002 and is the only player in the MLB with 30 or more home runs in the last 6 seasons.
The Indians started the 1st inning off right out of the gate with a leadoff foul ball that was originally called a home run hit by Francisco Lindor which it was clearly foul, after that the Indians went 1, 2, 3 in the first Inning which it was 0-0. The Royals sent out Danny Duffy (8-9) who has had a lot of Injury problems throughout and problems off the field as well. Duffy had a decent outing but it wasn’t enough to top one of the best pitchers on the planet, Corey Kluber. There was not a lot of offense in the game until the 7th, 8th and 9th Innings for either team. The Indians had opened the lead to 3-0 in the 7th Inning when Urshela grounded into a force out which gave Kluber his 17th win of 2017.
The Royals got some damage done in the 8th inning and not just some but quite some damage, Bryan Shaw came out Kluber for the 8th which some were surprised because Corey Kluber usually goes over 100 pitches, did not go over 100 pitches for the 6th time in 21 starts since his return from the DL. Shaw did not pitch well only recording 1 out facing 4 batters and 2 getting on base, then Tyler Olson came out and he also only recording 1 out facing 2 batters and the job came to a 4 out save situation for Cody Allen who has been on some hot stretches and rough stretches over the course of the 2017 season, faced 6 batters and recorded 4 outs which was really good for Indians fan to watch.
The player of the game had to have been Corey Kluber allowing only 3 hits and striking out nine and no walks, Kluber has only issued 34 walks in 27 starts including none during his 22 inning scoreless streak.
