AKRON- The way the Vikings began their season was something to forget, both teams couldn’t make any shots, with Akron shooting 31 percent from the field sure had the stuff to do it for them to win, although Cleveland State shot 9% better than Akron, they made less free throws than more attempts and that is why Akron won their season opener against Cleveland State.

Even with Cleveland State losing, Kenny Carpenter notched his first career double-double with 11 points and 12 boards and Tyree Appleby scored 13 points in his first career college game. If you were do see how bad free throws were, they weren’t just terrible, they were more than just terrible, I would say 90% of kids who play basketball could make more than 10 free throws in 26 attempts. Lets just say if CSU went 18-26 from the line, it would have been a 2 point loss which wouldn’t have been that bad.

Akron for a while was taking just 3’s and none of them were going in. They went for a total of 8-31 from Downton the entire game, shooting 31 3’s in the whole game, ¬†47% of their shots taken were 3 pointers. Daniel Utomi the Highlight of the game for Akron scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds and shooting 4-11 from the field.

Just like all of last season CSU went on a shooting drought in the second half. The Vikings made 2 shots from the field 8 minutes. ¬†These shooting droughts seem to get to them and they can’t seem to get out of them for a long time. This team looked very different from last year but still the shooting droughts is what hurt them,
