They did it! History! Earlier this afternoon the Indians won their 21st game in a row, becoming the second Major League Team won 21 in a row along with the 1935 Chicago Cubs. When you look at the only other time a 21 game winning streak was done, you think WOW, 82 years ago. Although the San Francisco Giants at the time (New York Giants) won 26 games in a row, there was a tie in it. They won their first 14, tied on the 15th game. then they won 12 in a row afterwards. But tomorrow night the Cleveland Indians will go for 22 wins a row, which would be a Major League record. And now lets talk a little bit about the game that happened today which was won by the Tribe 5-3.
The Indians came into today with a 89-56 regular season record with 20 straight wins today which tied the AL Record but today they broke the all time AL Record. The Tigers (60-85) started today very well with scoring a run and getting 3 runners aboard with 2 outs, this was just the 5th inning during this 21 game winning streak that the Indians were trailing in, and on the other hand, The Indians came right back with 2 out and 2 on, recently acquired RF from the New York Mets, Jay Bruce hit a home run which gave the tribe a 3-1 lead, the call was Reviewed but it was easily a home run hitting the top of the 19 foot wall out in left field. The score was 3-1 after 1 inning. Tigers Pitcher Buck Farmer had 6 strikeouts through 3 innings looked like he was either Indians batters were getting contact or striking out. The game was 3-1 until the 5th Inning.
It totally looked like a totally different game when really the only player on the Tigers who has made basically every game doubled and Future Hall Of Famer Miguel Cabrera scored making the game 4-3 but with Indians pitching, you could kind of tell that everything was going there way with this streak. The Indians failed to score in the 6th but they still had the lead. Starting pitching for the Indians has been phenomenal during this Winning Streak.
In the 7th Inning, the tigers failed to score any runs so in the Bottom half of the 7th Roberto Perez hit a home run into probably deepest part of the entire Progressive Field, over the high 19 foot wall in left center field. At that point, the Indians had a 2 run lead with Bryan Shaw working in the 8th Inning, lately the Indians bullpen has been on some rest with Kluber going the distance all the time, really helps this Indians team win some games.
And in the 9th Inning, same as last night, you could hear the crowd, they were alive and into it, you would think it was a Postseason game at the corners. 29,346 fans showed up to a noon weekday start time to see the Indians win 21 in a row, and if you were there you saw history!
Injury Report: Indians are set to all-star reliever Andrew Miller off the DL tomorrow, who has not pitched since August 24th, looks to upgrade the Indians stacked up bullpen and hope to continue this huge winning streak.
History in the Making in Cleveland!
